Falling for Layers

We’ve had some beautiful fall weather here on the east coast recently.  The kind of weather that is perfect for wearing “movable” clothing that can be easily transitioned on and off.  Here’s a look I wore recently that integrates some of my favorite fall layers.

Details.  Leather Jacket:  Old Loehmann’s find (but I love this and this)  //  Vest: Old Navy  //  Scarf: J.Crew  //  Chambray Top: J.Crew (similar)  //  Pants: Gap  // Flats: Ann Taylor (old, but OBSESSED with THESE!!)  // Bag: Zara

Zara Home Launch

Zara Home finally launched in the US last week!  The Spain-based fashion power house is now targeting the decor and accent furniture markets, and, as with all Zara products, the style, quality, and price is completely on point.

With free shipping throughout October, my days of smuggling these products across the border are long gone!  Check out my current favorites!

One. Julio Door Stop.  ::  Two. Mylo Vase.  ::  Three. Levin Lantern.  ::  Four. Pub Stool.  ::  Five. Sterling Pillow.  ::  Six. Venice Mirror.  ::  Seven. Alhambra Pillow.  ::  Eight. Monocle Nest of Tables. ::  Nine. Dony Coaster.

demure with a twist

A leopard pump can sometimes transcend past that tasteful line and end up in the not so subtle, look-at-me (in a bad way) territory.  One way I like to balance this bold element is to pair it with a mono-themed demure style to balance out the aggressive nature of the print.  In this case, I went ultra conservative.  Peplum top, lace pencil skirt, classically-styled bag.  Without the leopard, this look is too expected.  Paired with anything other than these conservative elements, the shoes could teater on the excessive side.  But all together, the ratio is quite balanced- demure with a twist.

Details: Top: Anthropologie // Skirt: Zara (similar here) // Shoes: Stuart Weitzman // Purse: Urban Expressions

Styling tip: I love the peplum look, but it is honestly a bit tricky to wear, especially in the hip area.  I, for one, cannot wear this top with jeans.  Too much attention is immediately brought to my middle, where all you see is pockets, buttons, and billowing curves.  Not the best move for those of us who want to minimize that region.  I have found, however, that pairing a peplum top with a pencil skirt works wonders. The longer the pencil skirt, the sleeker the silhouette.

pretty pretty pleats

Blazer: Zara (I’ve been eyeing this one) | Shirt: J.Crew | Skirt: American Apparel | Belt: J.Crew (similar here) | Shoes: J.Crew | Bag: Kooba | Sunglasses: H&M | Jewelry: Michael Kors watch, J. Crew Bracelet, Jennifer Zeuner Bracelet (as seen here), Flea Market Earrings

I’ve been searching for the perfect accordion pleated skirt for quite some time now.  I just love beautiful fluidity and quintessential femininity the look exudes.  This version from American Apparel is just right.  The bouncy pleats amazingly never wrinkle, the length is on point, and the price can’t be topped.  Go. Buy. Now!

all that glitters

Though I’m not normally one to condone blending into a crowd with an outfit in general, I find that this time of year, it is even more important to find looks that speak to the merriment of the season!  As I recently prepared for some of my festive fetes, I wanted to find a look that could make the perfect statement, with a little bit of stun, a little bit of sophistication, and a whole lot of sparkle!

I found the most utterly elegant Parker top and instantly knew this could be an heirloom-worthy piece that would surely render a show stealing moment.  In the front, a demure silhouette gilded with luxurious sequin and beading detail.  Turned around, a dramatic open back, enhanced by that extra touch of shimmery embellishment.  I paired it with a simple pencil skirt, modest diamond studs, a fun cocktail ring, and my look was ready for that first glass of bubbly!

This seasonless top will prove to be effortlessly versatile.  It can be paired with jewel-toned faux leather pants, for feminine look with a little punch…. with simple jeans, a cardigan, and leopard flats for the “oh no big deal, I’m just being glamorous at the grocery store again” option…. and even with a sharply tailored wool suit for a fresh combo that is sure to boost your confidence as you make that climb up the corporate ladder.

style focus | shock it to me

Now, don’t get me wrong…I love all things simple.  Clean, classic looks can really make a bold statement.  But nothing adds a little shock value like florescent tinged fashions.

I try to expand my palette and infuse brights into my wardrobe and home every chance I get.  Paired with nudes, blushes, and creams, these technicolor trends help me make an impact in any scene.

Check out one of my current outfit faves that I’ve been spotted sporting around town!

(btw, Zara has been killin it this season, no?!)

For my home, one of my favorite places to shop for punchy home accents is CB2.  The store is filled with affordable modern finds in both neutral and saturated shades.  And now, with the opening of a new CB2 store in my neighborhood, I’ve had a VERY hard time staying away.  Take a look at some of the best bright finds!

I recently purchased the switchback rug for my living room… adore-ahblay, right?!!!
